Transfer Window Ratings (Premier League)

Arsenal

Ben White (£50 million)

Martin Odegaard (£31 million)

Aaron Ramsdale (£25 million)

Takehiro Tomiyasu (£17 million)

Albert Sambi Lokonga (£16 million)

Nuno Tavares (£7 million)

Total= 146 million

After much controversy and hatred directed towards the Arsenal hierarchy in recent times you can not deny that they have backed the club this summer. Six major signings for a sum of 146 million the most money spent in the Premier League. Although a lot of players have been bought will they have an instant impact at the club? No signing made has proved themselves enough to be considered a top-class purchase, and some of the fees paid are just utterly ridiculous. Ben White, a 23-year-old centre half was bought for more money than Ronaldo and Varane combined! Although he does have potential and so do most of Arsenal’s young signings, for a side struggling right now they should of looked for instant improvement rather than potential improvement.

Rating 6/10

Aston Villa

Emiliano Buendia (£35 million),

Danny Ings (£30 million)

Leon Bailey (£29 million)

Ashley Young (free)

Axel Tuanzebe (loan)

Total= 94 million

Aston Villa superstar Jack Grealish was sold for a record fee and Villa knew they had some serious work to do to replace their star man. Although they paid some big fees, they definitely did their research before buying. They have signed quality players who will slot directly into the starting 11, With Ings, Buendia and Bailey already making goal contributions to the side. Not only did they Strengthen their attacking options, but they also brought in experienced defensive cover who both have Champions League experience, and both cost nothing. Top class window from the Villains who should look to compete for Europe this season.

Rating= 9/10

Brentford

Kristoffer Ajer (£14 million)

Yoane Wissa (£9 million)

Frank Oyenka (£9 million)

Myles Peart-Harris (£1.5 million)

Alvaro Fernandez (£1 million)

Total= £34.5 million

Premier League first timers Brentford have done some decent business in this window. They have signed an experienced centre-half in Ajer who could be a huge signing for them this season. They have also got a mix of European experience signing players from France, Spain, and Denmark. The Bees may struggle and I am not convinced that their signings in the summer will be enough.

Rating= 6/10

Brighton

Enock Mwepu (£20 million)

Marc Cucurella (£16 million)

Abdallah Sima (£7 million)

Kjell Scherpen (£4.5 million)

Kaoru Mitoma(£3 million)

Total= £50.5 million

Brighton have started life well in the Premier League with Mwepu playing in a partnership with Bissouma. With Cucurella to also come in with his pedigree and experience it is a fantastic signing for this growing Brighton side. The others mainly signed as squad depth may struggle to find a way into the Brighton XI, nevertheless may still prove to be good signings.

Rating= 7/10

Burnley

Maxwell Cornet (£14 million)

Nathan Collins (£13 million)

Connnor Roberts (£3 million)

Aaron Lennon (free)

Wayne Hennessey (free)

Jacob Bedeau (free)

Total= £30 million

Burnley have signed both experienced players and prodigies, Dyche has finally been backed as the Burnley gaffer for the first time in years which is great to see. They have a great player in Maxwell Cornet who started for Champions League side Lyon, they also have Roberts who had a great season with Swansea and also played a significant role for Wales in the euros. Burnley usually survive in the Premier League and their class manager works wonders with his squad, hopefully the signings will prove to be worth their value.

Total = 5/10

Chelsea

Romelu Lukaku (£97million)

Saul Niguez (loan)

Marcus Bettinelli (free)

Total= £97 million

Chelsea did exactly what they had to do, they needed a world class striker and they bought a world class striker. The Blues already had a fantastic squad it just needed a few adjustments they brought in great midfield cover in Saul. However, they will be kicking themselves that the Kounde deal never fell through. Nevertheless, this Chelsea side have quality and depth in defensive with or without him. Top window from Chelsea.

Rating= 8/10

Crystal Palace

Marc Guehi (£21 million)

Joachim Andersen (£16 million)

Odsonne Edouard (£15 million)

Michael Olise (£8 million)

Will Hughes (£6 million)

Connor Gallagher (loan)

Total= £66 million

This Palace side was getting old and needed some freshening up and Vieira did not disappoint. Two top young centre-backs, an experienced goal scorer, and three highly rated midfield players two being u21 Palace have recruited very well. Although I do not think Vieira will last very long at the club, he has definitely brought in the right players at the right time, which will set them up for the present and for the future.

Rating= 9/10

Everton

Demarai Gray (£2 million)

Andros Townsend (free)

Salomon Rondon (free)

Asmir Begovic (free)

Andy Lonergan (free)

Total= £2 million

Everton went for squad depth rather than definite starters bar Demarai Gray who has looked sharp. Apart from the Gray signing who looks to be an absolute steal the others do not significantly improve the Toffees and I expect another average season for them because of this.

Rating= 4/10

Leeds

Daniel James (£26 million)

Junior Firpo (£14 million)

Jack Harrison (£12 million)

Kristoffer Klaesson (£2 million)

Total= £54 million

Definitely an improved side in comparison to last year increasing both depth and quality in the squad. James should prove to be a good signing with their high intensity and fast play considering his blistering speed. Firpo is also a big upgrade at left-back for Alioski, The permanent signing of Harrison is also huge for the club as he played a big part for them last season, decent business from the Yorkshire club.

Rating= 6/10

Leicester

Patson Daka (£27 million)

Boubakary Soumare (£18 million)

Jannik Vestergaard (£16 million)

Ryan Bertrand (free)

Adeloma Lookman (loan)

Total= £61 million

Leicester are a club well known for their business in the transfer market and have yet again done phenomenally well. They have signed improvements all over the pitch as well as enhancing their squad depth. Stealing Lookman on a loan could also be a huge deal as he was superb for Fulham last year, exciting time to be a Leicester fan.

Rating= 8/10

Liverpool

Ibrahima Konate (£36 million)

Total = £36 million

Liverpool have finally bought a centre back to cover Matip and Van Dijk, although a good signing he will not play too much football and will be used more as a rotational player. Instead, it seems they have focused on promoting the likes of Harvey Elliott instead of signing more stars. The squad is getting relatively old, and I think they needed further backing to bring younger players in, not even to necessarily start but to gain experience out on loan. The future is relatively unknown for this side and the re-build will be very difficult when the time comes.

Rating= 4/10

Manchester City

Jack Grealish (£105 million)

Kayky (£9 million)

Scott Carson (free)

Total= £111 million

City have signed a fantastic player in Grealish however, although he is a top player will he offer enough to truly develop this city side, I am not convinced. Yes, he is fantastic on the ball, yes he is a great watch but will he provide enough goals and assists to make this City side next level? Especially for the price tag Grealish will have a lot of pressure and a lot to prove without even being a guaranteed starter due to the talent of Sterling, Torres, Foden, De Bruyne and Mahrez. The Citizens’ biggest failure of the window is not signing a striker, it looked Certain that Kane would be in a light blue jersey this summer, but it was not to be. After missing out on their biggest target would you call this window a success for the Manchester giants? I am not too sure.

Rating= 5/10

Manchester United

Jadon Sancho (£76 million)

Raphael Varane (£36 million)

Cristiano Ronaldo (£15 million)

Tom Heaton (free)

Total= £127 million

After a window of many shocks and surprises Ronaldo back to United definitely sums it up. United needed a competent centre-half to be paired with Maguire, Varane is more than competent. United needed an attacker and signed Dortmund starlet Sancho, fantastic signing. And of course, they signed the legend that is Ronaldo who is looking to retire in style. I am sure everyone would expect me not to criticise United’s phenomenal business this window however, you are wrong. Yes, I know Ronaldo is phenomenal and one of the best footballers to ever exist but, was he really needed at United? They just signed Sancho for big money, they need a defensive midfielder more than anything to be able to compete, and then they go and spent big money on a player that they do not need. Sancho may not get game time now that he needs to develop, I am not sure that Ronaldo was a necessity to this side, one or the other would have been perfect. It may sound harsh, but I think the Red Devils would have been better off signing someone like Casemiro or Llorente.

Rating= 8/10

Newcastle

Joe Willock (£26 million)

Santiago Munoz (loan)

Total= £26 million

Steve Bruce was eager to bring loan star Willock on a permanent transfer and he did exactly that. Munoz is relatively unknown, and it is hard to predict if he will be a success in Tyneside. Nothing too special from the Toon Army however, their squad should be strong enough to avoid relegation.

Rating= 4/10

Norwich

Christos Tzolis (£10 million)

Milot Rashica (£10 million)

Josh Sargent (£9 million)

Ben Gibson (£8 million)

Dimitrios Giannoulis (£7 million)

Pierre Lees Melou (£5 million)

Angus Gunn (£5 million)

Ozan Kabak (£3 million)

Mathias Normann (£2 million)

Brandon Williams (loan)

Billy Gilmour (loan)

Flynn Clarke (loan)

Total= £59 million

The biggest yo-yo team in English football, the team that can often never survive knew that they had to bring in some serious reinforcements. Norwich brought in a bunch of experience, class and youth in order to improve their side. Although no signing is outstanding the majority of them have great potential and will bring something new to the side which may give the Canaries some hope in the relegation battle this season.

Rating= 8/10

Southampton

Adam Armstrong (£16 million)

Romaine Perraud (£11 million)

Lyanco (£7 million)

Valentino Livramento (£5 million)

Theo Walcott (free)

Armando Broja (loan)

Thierry Small (loan)

Total= £39 million

Southampton got off to an absolute shocker this year, losing two of their best players Ings and Vestergaard they had to bring in some top recruitments to replace them. You can not say they have not tried, they brought in Armstrong to fill Ings’ void which will be a huge ask for an unproven Premier League striker. Potential signing of the summer could be Livramento though, he has already showed such maturity and class this season and I expect more to come.

Rating= 6/10

Spurs

Bryan Gil (£22 million)

Emerson Royal (£22 million)

Pape Sarr (£15 million)

Cristian Romero (loan)

Pierluigi Gollini (loan)

Total =£59 million

Spurs have definitely improved in the areas they needed to this season. Signing a solid centre-back as well as a right full back they have improved their defence significantly. Although he is not a new signing holding on to Kane could be the best bit of business Spurs have done throughout the window. Adding new youngsters Sarr and Gil to the squad gives Tottenham hope for the future, a very impressive window.

Rating= 7/10

Watford

Imran Louza (£9 million)

Emmanuel Dennis (£4 million)

Moussa Sissoko (£3 million)

Ozan Turfan (£1 million)

Mattie Polock (300k)

Josh King (free)

Danny Rose (free)

Ashley Fletcher (free)

Peter Etebo (loan)

Juraj Kucka (loan)

Kwadwo Baah (loan)

Total= £17.3 million

Watford have done very well considering some of the prices it takes to sign top quality nowadays. They have got a very experienced players in Sissoko, Rose and Kucka, two bagsmen in King and Dennis and a midfield general in Louza. Dennis looks very quick and agile and is bound to cause a few defenders nightmares this season, top signing. Yes, Watford have improved their squad but will it be enough to protect them from relegation, I would not count on it.

Rating= 6/10

West Ham

Kurt Zouma (£30 million)

Nikola Vlasic (£27 million)

Alex Kral (£5 million)

Craig Dawson (£2 million)

Alphonse Areola (£2 million)

Total= £66 million

The Hammers lost Lingard after his loan, and he needed replacing which they have found in Vlasic, the Hammers needed improvement at the back which they have found in Zouma. Kral, Dawson and Areola all provide great depth and quality in this rapidly improving West Ham side who should be looking for European football again this season.

Rating= 7/10

Wolves

Rayan Ait-Nouri (£10 million)

Jose Sa (£7 million)

Yerson Mosquera (£5 million)

Bendeguz Bolla (£2 million)

Francisco Trincao (loan)

Hwang Hee-Chan (loan)

Toti Gomes (loan)

Total= £24 million

Wolves have had an average window; they lost a top keeper in Rui Patricio and I am not sure Sa is anywhere near as good. Trincao looks to be a great signing with him and Traore in attack no team can be safe. Hwange Hee-Chan in an attack with Jimenez, Traore and Trincao is very dangerous and could prove to be a great bit of business. After losing Nuno and losing the form that gained them consecutive European positions in the Premier League Wolves may be in for a tough ride this season.
