Dazzling Davinson

Updated: Mar 9, 2023

Over the past decade or two Spurs have had a pretty decent track record when it comes to centre backs. The solid Belgian pairing of Alderweireld and Vertonghen will go down in the clubs history, the legend that is Ledley King will not be forgotten. The Lillywhites's standards are therefore pretty high when it comes to defenders.

After the recent departure of Alderweireld Spurs used their funds to strengthen the side by signing highly rated Argentina star Christian Romero. Although signed two matchdays ago Romero is yet to start a Premier League game for Tottenham, meaning that the likes of Sanchez and Dier have had to play in his absence.

Always highly rated at Ajax the 25 year old Colombian has struggled in the Premier League ever since his 42 million pound transfer during the 2017 transfer window. After spending four seasons in the shadows Sanchez is beginning to come into his own under new boss Nuno. Three wins on the bounce, three clean sheets in a row, Sanchez is beginning to fulfil the potential that made him a club record fee in 2017.

The Colombian is beginning to hit unstoppable form, form that may propel Spurs to a European place or perhaps even further if they keep producing good results. The mammoth centre half soon to be paired with Romero could form a formidable partnership at the heart of Spurs' defence. After years of optimism, hurt, heartbreak Tottenham may have found a winning combination: although as often is the case with Spurs, it is the hope that kills.
